A THOUGHT on PRAYER by Deaconess Maria Augustine, Chief Intercessor
In Luke 1:8, Jesus told His disciples that they ought always to pray and not to faint. But why such an admonishment from the One who watches over our souls?
1) Our persistence moves our Father. Luke 11 v 5-13 the story is told of a friend who went to his neighbor at midnight to ask for bread. His neighbor might have considered him bothersome at first, but because of his persistence or like one commentary states, his shameless audacity, the friend said, "I will get up and give him what he needs."
2) Stay alert! In 1 Peter 5:8, we are admonished to "watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a lion, looking for someone to devour."
The great enemy of our souls is ever looking for an entrance or occasion to attack the brethren, and one of the ways the Christian fulfills his desire and gives him an occasion to accomplish it is through the lack of prayer.
3) God always longs to have communication and fellowship with His children. In fact, that was His original intent. In Genesis 3:8 we understand that before the fall, Father visited with Adam and Eve on the cool of the day, but when man sinned, that meeting was no longer possible. It was because of this lost communication that Father allowed His Son to be crucified and His blood shed. This blood became the ransom price He paid to get us back - the precious blood of Jesus!
What hope! What comfort! What joy!
