What Motivates You?
By Pastor Norma Fontaine-Philbert
FRESH BREAD: Jesus warned that we are not to perform godly acts for the purpose of attracting praise to ourselves. This warning does not focus on the visibility of our good deeds but rather on our personal motives for doing the good deeds.
Motives have a lot to do with who one is; motives incite one to action. King Jehu served God, but only to the extent that it served his self-interests. The Bible tells us that he did not have a sincere concern for the preservation of God’s truth, but rather, he was motivated by political ambition. (II Kings 9 & 10).
Jesus said, "Let your light shine before men in such a way as they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Let us not forget that even in godly acts and deeds, motives matter. Selah!
